Required qualifications and experience:

The post-holder will have:


  1. Education to degree level (or equivalent) in a biology or life sciences subject.  


  1. Education to NVQ - level II or III with practical expertise gained from hands-on work experience in a laboratory environment.
  1. At least 2 years hands-on experience working in a biology laboratory.
  1. Experience working with model plants.
  1. Experience working with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Outlook (i.e. calendar and email) is essential.
  1. Experience reading and writing risk assessments for technical laboratory work involving hazards such as chemicals, temperature extremes, sharps, etc.


  1. Experience with Agrobacterium-mediated transformation.
  1. Experience DNA extractions and PCR.
  1. Experience working with inventory management system/ERP.
  1. Experience working as part of a customer-facing team.

Role and responsibilities:

We are looking for a highly motivated technician to manage the plant husbandry within our research laboratories, you will be responsible for the key task of maintaining and generating plant lines of interest for the R&D teams.  

You will be instrumental to organisational success by ensuring consistent quality and quantity of plant material for our research platforms. The post-holder will be working as part of this innovative and collaborative Research and Development Team and will act as a key contact between the R&D platforms and the Operations team.

We are looking for an individual who will strive to deliver a tangible impact through organised and conscientious working.


  1. Maintain and propagate wild type and mutant plant lines in axenic cultures.
  1. Generate new mutant plant lines though stable plant transformation.  
  1. Extract DNA from plant tissue and genotype plant lines.  
  1. Plan and organise the experimental work independently.  
  1. Deliver data produced to senior staff in a clear and organized manner and maintain accurate records using corporate systems (e.g. electronic laboratory notebooks, QMS).  
  1. Work cooperatively with biologists and technicians across platforms.
  1. Contribute with technical solutions, ideas and concepts where appropriate.  
  1. Maintain good laboratory practices.
  1. Contribute to reports, SOPs, risk assessments and presentations.  
  1. Strictly follow SOPs and risk assessments.
  1. General laboratory housekeeping on a daily basis. This will include tasks such as the operation of an industrial scale autoclave
  1. This role is not restricted to the above and encompasses any support activities that facilitate the smooth running of the laboratory-based operations. As the company grows, your role could vary as required to support further operational and support functions.
