MoA’s mission is to find a new generation of safe and effective herbicides to help farmers produce high quality food. To achieve this goal, we have developed 3 unique and complementary platforms: MoA-GALAXY, MoA-TARGET and MoA-SELECT. The post-holder will be part of the MoA-GALAXY team.

MoA-GALAXY is a unique proprietary High Throughput Screening (HTS) platform to find herbicides with new modes of action. We use state-of-the-art screening and imaging technologies to generate a wide range of herbicidal activity data.  

We are seeking a driven, highly organized, and pro-active individual to join the GALAXY team. The successful candidate will integrate into a dynamic group working on the phenotypic discovery-pipeline to identify new candidate herbicide MOA.

As a Biology Scientist in GALAXY your role will be to contribute to the phenotypic characterization of active molecules, implementing hit selection, hit-to-lead biological profiling and reporting. You will conduct compound screening and profiling utilizing state-of-the art high throughput screening tools. You will have an enthusiasm for scientific delivery and innovation and outstanding attention to detail. On a person level, you are curious, open minded and striving to lean more. You are analytical, assertive and a team player. You will be reporting to the head of GALAXY at moa Technology. Molecular Biology skills are not relevant to this position.

The Role

Position type: Permanent full-time - 37.5 hours per week

Required qualifications and experience:

The post-holder will have:

  • MSc in a  biology or life sciences subject. Dependent on the experience a BSc degree could  be considered.  
  • Experience in phenotypic screening, either through genetic or drug  discovery approaches, (highly desirable).
  • Proven ability to analyse and interpret complex phenotypic data  (highly desirable).
  • Have demonstrable knowledge of plant biology and  imaging (highly desirable).
  • Have awareness of plant growth in laboratory.
  • Computer  literacy and data handling.
  • Ability to prioritize project timelines and daily  activities.
  • Strong organisational skills to enable planning of  work on multiple projects.
  • Proven  ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience of mentoring of less-experienced staff.
  • Industrial  experience is an advantage but not essential.
  • Ability to communicate  effectively in English both in  writing and at meetings with relevant stakeholders.

Eligibility

MoA is strongly committed to the safety of their employees and in the current COVID-19 climate, have taken measures that require the post-holder to:

  • Live in the Oxford area and have means to commute. Candidates who do not currently live in the Oxford area should be able to provide evidence that they can relocate in a timely and safely manner.
  • Work flexible hours and be opened to work weekends, early mornings (~7:00-9:00) or evenings (~17:00-22:00), in order to maintain social distancing. As the Government relaxes safe social distancing rules and allows a return to normal working practices we will also revert to our normal working arrangements (Mon-Fri, 9am -5pm).
