Weed resistance is a global agricultural problem on par with water scarcity. Yet leaning too hard on just one solution can make things even worse.

We believe the better, more sustainable approach is to combine regenerative farming practices with a new generation of safe and effective synthetic and biological herbicides, empowering farmers to do the right thing for food security and for the environment.

New and better herbicides address four of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals: ending hunger; responsible consumption and production; climate action; and sustaining life on land.

They will help farmers regenerate the soil, use less water and fertiliser, and adapt to climate change, all of which contribute to greater food security, particularly in the Global South. Effective herbicides will also play a vital role in slowing global warming, preventing deforestation and maintaining current land use by helping farmers to make best use of the land they already have.

We project that our novel mode of action herbicides could help avoid more than 600 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions, and 2.2 million hectares of nature loss every year, by reducing the need for land use change from biodiverse forests and savanna to cropland.

We believe that making a positive impact on global food security is not enough – we also want to protect and improve the environment in which we live.

That’s why we’ve partnered with My Green Lab, a not-for-profit organisation, to benchmark and improve the environmental sustainability of our research laboratories. My Green Lab certification has been named by the UNFCCC as one of the key breakthroughs required in the pharma and biotech sectors to help the world reach net zero by 2050.

To achieve our goal of certification, we started by assessing our Bellhouse laboratory in Oxford to establish a baseline and see how we could reduce waste, minimise energy and water consumption and adopt green chemistry strategies. Our cross-functional "Green Team" worked to implement these best practices across the business.

We were then re-assessed to measure our progress, and were delighted to be awarded "Gold" certification: a fantastic achievement in our first year in the My Green Lab scheme.

Empowering people is at the heart of everything we do. We want to give farmers around the world the tools they need to protect their harvests and make sure that everyone has enough to eat.

To do this, we're bringing together the best people in the world and providing them with a space where they can be at their best, creating a supportive, collaborative environment where everyone has the tools and resources they need to thrive.

Our world-class team draws on expertise and perspectives from over 24 different nationalities to work towards our common goal.

Led by a female CEO with a scientific background, nearly half of our scientists are female. This shows that with the right leadership and culture, it’s possible to create a gender-balanced team in STEM, and we hope that inspires more women and girls to consider careers in science.

What brings our diverse people together into a successful team are our shared values and how we live by them on a daily basis:
